Jimmy claims to have started his entertainment career at the age of 6 as an alternative comic when his main speciality was to drop his shorts at every opportunity. His mother used to try to stop him, telling him that it wasn't funny, a trend that continues right up to this very day- but still he defies her.
He started to perform magic in his early teens at youth clubs and small local functions. When he left school, he started to play the drums in local bands and eventually turned professional drummer and toured England with his group Bulldog performing predominantly at outdoor concerts and Universities, but after the shows he would still perform magic to people who hung around for the parties.
In 1988 He was playing his last Summer Season with his then Comedy Band Bumper Bundle at Skegness. It was here that Jimmy met Ann, better known to most in the magic fraternity as Crystal, now his wife. After the Season Ann and Jimmy moved back to Wolverhampton and started work on their new comedy magic act Jimmy Carlo & Crystal. Their first gig was a 6 month Summer Season in Jersey in 1990 performing 2 shows a night in different Hotels. This provided great grounding and allowed them the chance to really tighten up the act which became the thing that Jimmy is perhaps best known for, The Sumo act.
In 1991 the act was entered into the IBM British Ring Shield Competition were it made history by winning all 3 top categories in the same year - Best Comedy Act, Most Original Act, and the highly coveted Shield itself. After this triumphant night Crystal and Jimmy were inundated with requests to perform all over the world at Magic Conventions and Corporate Functions performing their complete comedy Sumo Magic Show.
Since then they have added a number of new acts, including a comedy knife throwing act and performed in Summer Seasons for Butlins, Pontins, Haven, and have Cruised the world for Royal Caribbean and Colour Cruise Lines. They have also played major roles in Panto's such as The Wizard of Oz, Babes in the Wood and Jack and the Bean Stalk. Over the past 10 years this busy duo have supported and toured with Billy Pearce, Rose Marie, Danny LaRue, Vince Hill, Bobby Davro, Bernie Clifton and are still Touring for the 3rd year with Ken Dodd.
Jimmy & Crystal have appeared on Television all over the world and represented the UK in the United Slapstick Comedy Awards on Sat 3 TV Germany. They also won the coveted title of British Champions of Comedy Magic at the Horse Shoe Show Bar in 1999.
With the same energy and attention to detail, Jimmy also appears as Jimbo presenting his action packed 'Jimbo's Comedy Magic Show' and is one of the most successful Childrens entertainers in the Midlands.
In May 2001 Jimmy was awarded an Associate member of the Inner Magic Circle with Silver Star, an honour which he holds very high in his years of achievements. Best of all, to all who know him, Jimmy is Jimmy and you could never wish to meet a much nicer guy.
