David's interest in magic started on a holiday in Blackpool, walking down the central pier when he was aged 11, he saw somebody demonstrating Svengali decks. A pack was purchased and the bug bit. The interest was fuelled each year with visits to the Paul Clive Magic shop on the north pier and at Murray's Magic Mart, where his savings were spent on all sorts of miracles.
He was further encouraged by watching variety shows on holiday and David Nixon on television, and on Saturday evenings it was the visit to the local working men's club to see all kinds of acts including, comedians, ventriloquists, jugglers and of course magicians. It was on one of these visits when David, now 16, saw 'Van Buren and Greta'. He went back stage and Van Buren, or Fred Yoxall from Silverdale, Stoke-on-Trent, gave David details of a local magician, Stan Marshall. Stan was a great help to David and it was he that introducing him to the Wolverhampton Circle of Magicians.
Around the same time David started performing at Church fetes and local schools. With help and encouragement from Stan, David joined the W.C.M. in 1976. He has since entered their competitions winning the William Stevens Shield three times, the Tony Shelley Cup three times and the Tom Laws Plate for Close-up Magic. He became President of the society in 1981.
His occupation at this time was a joiner but, in 1983, he left his job to go to Mojacar in southern Spain to be a Children's Entertainer at the hotel Indalo. His duties included, Magic shows, games and competitions for the children in the daytime and assisting with the adult entertainment with games and comedy sketches in the evenings, plus a short time as the hotel's D.J.
When David returned to the U.K. he went back into the building trade but continued entertaining in pubs, schools, playgroups and private parties. In 1991 he decided to turn professional. David has acts to suit a varied audience with childrens shows, close-up for adults, cabaret and a 12 minute silent act, all of which have evolved over a period of years.
He has worked for a wide array of clients including, Goodyear Tyres, Transco, Lloyds TSB, 3M, Cadbury World, Whirlpool, as well as car launches for Jaguar, Volvo, BMW and Vauxhall amongst others.
He is constantly kept busy working all over the U.K. with exhibitions, car launches, hotels and restaurants, product launches, fun days, and private parties.
